The Jigawa State government has expressed readiness to complement federal government’s efforts in sustaining the success achieved in polio eradication by supporting Nigeria/Niger Republic cross border immunization.
The state Commissioner of Health, Abba Zakari Umar, while speaking with newsmen in Dutse, said the state would complement the federal government efforts in border towns of Babura, Maigatari and Birniwa.
“There are strategies of sustaining the gain of polio eradication in the state. Efforts will be intensified in routine and National Immunization Days. The government will also work closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and traditional institutions to ensure that the gain made is sustained,” he said.
On malaria, Umar said the state was holding talks with some organizations for indoor residual spray to check the spread of mosquitoes.
He added that in order to minimize cost, there is a need for stakeholders to take the distribution of treated mosquito nets seriously.
