'Political Commitment Secret to Ondo's Successes in Child, Maternal Health'

Political commitment has been described as the t only sure way to deal with maternal mortality which has caused untold economic, psychological and health burden for many nations across the world. 
 
Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, expressed this at the Women Global Conference, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. 
 
According to a statement from Ondo Ministry of Health, signed by the Press Officer, Kehinde Adeleye, the Governor who spoke through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, highlighted some of his gov-ernment's health innovations to include Abiye, Agbebiye, Orirewa and the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths (CEMDOS), which he noted is the first of such in Nigeria to report causes of a pregnant woman's death. 
 
According to him, over 15,000 babies had been suc-cessfully referred by the Traditional and mission Home Birth Attendants, known as `Agbebiye', just as govern-ment had empowerd them with loans to start a new life after quitting birth taking business.
