Private medical practitioners under the aegis of Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), have decried the dearth of modern medical diagnostic equipment/facilities in private hospitals, which they attributed to the prohibitive capital outlay in acquiring them.

This was disclosed yesterday during the AGPMPN’s 38th Annual General Meeting and International Scientific Conference in Abuja.
The National President of the AGPMPN, Dr Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen, said, “This, unwittingly, robs us of the opportunity of embracing sharp-edged contemporary high-tech diagnostic and therapeutic aids/methods.”
For example, he explained that, “ the cost of CT Scanner, an MRI or PET Scan machine ranges between N250 million to N1 billion , whereas a private medical practitioner does not have the financial muscle/capacity to carry this burden.”
He added that this has, invariably, led to high bills in the hospitals because private medical practitioners have to use their money/resources to provide energy/power for machines and equipment, security for themselves and their families, and will also have to pay competitive salaries to their workers.
