Three unions of the National Hospital Abuja (NHA) yesterday kicked off a three -day work-to-rule protest demanding for their teaching allowance which has been halted since June 2013.
The affected unions; Senior Staff Union, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives and the Medical and Network Association protested between 8 am and 12 pm, channeling their grievance towards the management of the hospital for stopping the teaching allowance of CONHESS 7 and 8 since June 2013.
Comrade Jeleeli Adewale Kilani, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association (NHA)while speaking to our reporter said are agitating for the reinstatement of teaching allowance of staff on CONHESS 7 and 8 which has been stopped since June 2013. “We are on this work to rule protest because the teaching allowance enjoyed by staff was stopped since June 2013 for staff on CONHESS 7 and 8 without any reason. we have since being negotiating with the management since then on why it was stopped but no possible reason was given to us” he said.
Comrade Kilani said different ultimatum have been given to the management since January this year but there were no positive response, hence the need to stage this protest.
Comrade Babatunde Tajudeen Rasak, Chairman Medical and Network Association said the protest became necessary after the associations have waited for response from the management on different ultimatum given to them to address the issue.
He said they are yet to receive any letter from the management adding that the only letter they received yesterday morning was the reply to the letter they wrote them informing them of the work to rule protest. “In their reply they were tried to inform us that, there is a committee set up by the government to look into our case and we haven’t seen anything or heard anything from any quarter.
