PSN Seeks Increased Funding for Pneumonia, Diarrhea

President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Pharm. Ahmed Yakasai has called for increased funding for Amoxicillin dispersible tablets for pneumonia in children, and low Osmolarity ORS solution / Zinc sulphate for diarrhoea as approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
 
Yakasai spoke in Lagos when he led a team of pharmacists on a visit to the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Dr. Jide Idris.
 
According to a UNICEF report, pneumonia is the leading cause of under-five child mortality globally, with an estimated 1.2 million deaths annually with 60% occurring in just 10 countries including Nigeria, Bangladesh, D.R. Congo, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, among others.
