The striking Resident Doctors of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) yesterday brought to a halt their ongoing strike action to attend to victims of bomb blast in Zaria.
ABUTH had since last month embarked on an indefinite strike action over what they described as incomplete payment of their salaries and illegal sack of 44 doctors by the hospital’s management.
The President of the Association of Resident Doctors, ABUTH chapter, Dr. Tuko Moses yesterday told our reporter that in spite of the ongoing strike, all the resident doctors were fully mobilised to attend to the injured victims, assuring that they will continue to render health care services until the victims come out of their critical conditions.
“As soon as we are done with the bomb victims, the strike continues until our demands are met,” he noted.

Also, the chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, Kaduna state chapter, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed also condemned the Zaria attack on civil servants, saying it is unfortunate.
“As soon as the incident occurred, NMA sent messages to all its members to proceed to all hospitals to take care of the affected victims.
The Association of Resident Doctors of ABUTH also defied their strike to attend to victims while the Medical and Dental Consultant Association sent messages to their members too to come out to render assistance.
“Based on the number of victims brought to the hospital, 26 people died from the blast while 36 were injured and are currently receiving treatment. Many of them have been stabilised except one person who was critically injured but has also been stabilised.
“Work has resumed fully at the accident and emergency ward of ABUTH and from my interaction with the resident doctors, they have resumed fully so as to take care of the bomb victims until they all recover,” he said.
