The Association of Resident Doctors of Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekit held an emergency general meeting (EGM) on Tuesday April 26 2016 at the Alexander Akinyele Doctors Lounge, at the end of which this communique was issued:

 

The following observations were noted:

1. The house is in deep mourning following the untimely and traumatic death of six of our colleagues and the Ekiti NMA bus driver.

2. It is worthy of note that in the accident, this centre lost the following set of people: A two time president of our Association who is also the current secretary of Ekiti NMA, Dr Alexander Adewale Akinyele; a supernumerary resident, Dr Adeniyi James Atolani and our father, erudite teacher and founding consultant of the department of surgery of this institution Dr Tunde Aladesanmi

3. We noted with thanks the timely response of his excellency governor Ayodele fayose and members of his cabinet, Kaduna state governemnt, Kaduna state NMA, the CMD Federal Neuropsychiatry hhospital kaduna and Ekiti state medical elders. We deeply appreciate your supports in this hour of grief.

4. The house noted with appreciation the support of sister unions in federal teaching hospital, Ido-Ekiti. this has proven that we can break through barriers to function as a whole

5. We stand with the bereaved families in this trying moment.

 

However, we noted with extreme disappointment, the insensitivity and irresponsiveness on the side of the management of this teaching hospital since the incident occurred as evidenced by:

1. Absense of an official statement and position from our hospital management, 48 hours after the incidence, despite being informed immediately after the occurrence.

2. We also noticed that the managment of Federal Teaching hospital, Ido-Ekiti was not duly represented and did not take a significant role at the stakeholders deliberation at the Ekiti NMA House, despite being duly informed

3. Even 48hours after the incidence, the management isyet to take any significant part as compared with other sister institutions in the burial arrangment despite suffering the highest number of causalties

4. Our perception of the managements insensitivity is further re-enforced by the continued stay of the chief medical director at the NMA ADM after the institution has suffered the greatest calamity in her history.

 

Based on the above, the house made the following resolutions:

1. We hereby declared a mourning period starting from today 26th April 2016 till all our members are duly interred during which we will have a candle light procession on sunday 1st May 2016 and our members will be allowed to participate in every activities of the burial

2. We align with the burial arrangements made by the state government, Ekiti NMA and the families of the deceased.

3. As part of the burial arrangements, the house demands a befitting lying-in-state for our fallen heros at premises of the federal teaching hospital, Ido-Ekiti

4. We hereby pass a vote of no confidence on the part of the current management of Federal teaching hospital, Ido-Ekiti led by Dr L.M Ayodele

5. We support the struggles being jointly undertaken by all the unions demanding the stepping down of the current leadership of the institution
