Rotary District 9123 last weekend marked its three-day annual Family Health where it offered free health services to Nigerians from all walks of life.
Flagging off the event at Gwarinpa village, the District Governor, 9125, Dr Mike Omotosho said screening is very crucial if one is to stay and remain healthy.
He said there are so many diseases called silent killers even though there are no symptoms, saying, “we have to know what to do if we have to live with the realities of our time.”
The DG who was represented by Rotarian (Dr) Segun Ajuwon, said Rotarians are encouraged to take health care services to the people across the country so as to prevent most diseases.
This year’s state coordinator, Rotary Family Health Days, Ms Lynda Ihuoma Nwadioha, said the organization target 5,000 people across the communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
She said, “we want to take health care to the domain of every community in the FCT. That is why the organization deemed it fit to have up to eight major sites so we can reach every rural woman and her children. That is basically our target.” “We want to help scourge any health challenge in the society in our women, youths and children.”
Also in his remarks, the district governor nominee, 9125, Rot Unuoka M.B. said the programme is one of the laudable programmes of Rotary as the organization takes health directly to the doorsteps of the community.
“We are bringing it to them to show them that prevention of health is cheaper than going to hospital. Some of them don’t go to the hospital; they don’t even know what it means. So what we do is to screen and treat them here.”
Rotary District 9125 offered free health services, including free HIV test, malaria test and treatment, immunization, free distribution of insecticide treated nets, blood and sugar test and high blood pressure, amongst others.
