Israeli researchers from the Tel Aviv University say a curative component in cannabis, called cannabidiol can enhance the healing process of fractured bones according to a publication in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
They found that cannabidiol, a non-psychotropic but psychoactive component of cannabis, was sufficiently effective in enhancing fracture healing. It sped up healing processes in broken leg bones of trial rats with mid-femoral fractures. Although they say a lot of work remains to be done to develop appropriate human therapies, the scientists are optimistic of a clinical therapy objective from the psychoactivity of cannabis.
Medical cannabis provides bone tissue with mineralisation, that hardens the bone and makes it harder to break in the future.
Cannabis, also called marijuana. has been linked to effective treatment of epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson ‘s diseases. It is also used to soften the negative effects of chemotherapy in cancer patients, treat chronic pain, and help people struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.
