Geneva, Switzerland; Oslo, Norway; 3 February 2016 - The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the Norwegian Nurses Organisation recently held the first ICN Leadership for Change (LFCTM) Programme workshop, 18-22 January 2016, in Oslo, Norway. Thirty-four senior nurse administrators from all regions of Norway took part in the first workshop of this three-part programme, which aims to develop capacity for leadership among health care managers who can lead change to improve healthcare services and delivery in their home country.
The programme will be delivered during three sessions with the second workshop scheduled for 13-18 June 2016, and the final to be conducted 16-20 January 2017. During this programme 34 change projects will be completed in a variety of areas, including: clinical pathway for health care of new refugees; reorganisation of emergency department services; patient/family participation in mental health treatment planning; and reducing hospital readmissions through improved discharge planning. This workshop confirms the commitment of the Norwegian Nursing Organisation to improve the quality of care rendered to the citizens of Norway by building leadership for change capacity among nurses working across the country's health system.
The Norwegian programme trainers are Kathryn Molstad, Oyvind Nordbo, and Arne Vaerland while the ICN consultant on the project is Dr. Kristine Qureshi. This ICN LFC programme has been made possible by generous financial support from the Norwegian Nurses Organisation. Eli Gunhild By, President of the Norwegian Nurses Organisation, noted, "It is exciting to see the ICN LFC programme implemented in Norway. The LFC will increase capacity for nursing leadership to initiate change in many sectors of the Norwegian healthcare system. As the largest segment of the health workforce in the country, it is important that nursing leadership is cultivated."
Dr. Kristine Qureshi added, “This is only the second time that the ICN Leadership for Change Program has been implemented in Europe. This is an affirmation of the need for expanding nursing leadership capacity and the calibre of this important programme."

ï‚· Networking nationally, regionally and internationally
