Ondo State Government said that two persons have been confirmed positive to Lassa Fever outbreak in the State, just as 31 others who had contact with the victims have been quarantined in order to curtail any further spread.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, dropped the hint during the sensitization meeting with stakeholders, held at the Ade-super Hotel, Akure.
According to him, the disease which broke out in Ose Local Government Area of the State has left one dead, while the other is receiving attention at the State Specialist Hospital Akure.
Dr. Adeyanju, who explained that government had put the 31 persons who had contact with the victims on surveillance, said that such would prevent the endemic disease from spreading. He revealed that the outbreak control team at the local government level had been re-activated, while emergency lines and other sensitization measures are available to the media in order to enlighten the public.
While urging all and sundry on the need to maintain hygienic environment at all times, he assured that government would continue to put in place measures aimed at educating people on how to avoid rats living in their surroundings.
He informed that Personal Protective Equipment are already made available to health workers across the state.
The Commissioner later informed that the signs and symptoms of Lassa fever include: fever, sore throat, cough, chest pain, bleeding from the nose, mouth, ears and eyes among others.
Some of the stakeholders present at the meeting were: traditional rulers, religious leaders and market women.
