Shun Strike, Lagos Gov Begs Doctors

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has appealed to doctors and nurses in the state to reach a consensus never again to embark on strike, so as to fulfill their core responsibility of saving human lives.

Fashola made the appeal yesterday during the 2015 State Council on Health meeting at Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, where Healthcare Communications Limited honoured him with three awards, namely High achievers award for healthcare; Governor of the republic award and Healthcare man of the year award.

While presenting the performance scorecard for the state’s Ministry of Health, the governor noted that incessant strikes in the health sector will continue to be an impediment to provision of excellent health care delivery in the state. He, however, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, CEO of Healthcare Magazine, for the awards, attributing his endeavour in healthcare delivery to team work by the state’s health family.

“I thank all our health workers for refusing to give up; you have been very resourceful. This award belongs to all of us. People all over the nation choose our healthcare, not for the quality of our services alone but also for our free health care services. Indeed, our policies and laws have set us apart. We have been able to achieve a lot. Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, now has stable electricity, we have no new case of polio recorded, we have built a new school of nursing in Alimosho, as well as built one of the largest cardiac centres in Gbagada, among others,” he said.
