Medicalworld Nigeria has received a memo sent to us annonymously addressed to the PSH, DHS and titled "Tenures of Chief Executive Officers of Federal Tertiary Health Institutions.
The memo prayed the Honourable minister of health to note that "the management of the ministry had decided that the tenure of CEOs of FTHIs be limited to a single term".
It further reads: Following a discussion between the honourable minister of health (HMH), Honourable Minister of state for Health (HMSH) and the permanent secretary, It was decided that the tenure of Chief Executive officers of Federal tertiary health institutions be limited to a single term. This decision was taken as part of comprehensive measures to address some of the causes of conflict in the institutions.
Consequently, it may be appropriate for the HMH to approve that those CEOs of FTHIs whose first tenures have expired should be directed to haand over to the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Head of clinical services (HCS), Deputy registrar or their equivalents as the case may be. Secondly, that CEOs who are already serving their second tenures should commence the process of appointing their successors by placing advertisements in two widely circulated national dailies at least six months to their due dates to ensure a seamless transistion. To this end, two draft generic letters to convey the information to the affected CEOs are attached for vetting. Also attached, is a template detailing those CEOs whose tenures have either expired or are due to expire in 2016
