Nasarawa state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA yesterday issued a seven day ultimatum to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state to implement the corrected CONMESS or risk a strike
The state NMA issued the ultimatum in a communique jointly signed by Dr. Omolei Friday and Dr Attah Peter, chairman and secretary respectively and given to journalists at the end of its emergency congress in lafia the state capital
The communique also noted that the salary review being carried out by the government should be an upward review in view of the prevailing harsh economic realities and the proposed upward review of the national minimum wage by the federal government
The communique reads in parts: "That the Nasarawa state governent should, in line with the WHO recommendation, appropriate at least 15 percent of its annual budgetary allocation to the health sector to reduce the high morbidity and mortality in the state and further empower healthcare providers The communique concluded by warning that if after june 1, 2016 heeded, the association would have no other option than to resume its earlier suspended withdrawal of services from june 2, 2016 until the association's demands are met.
