It was indeed a sad day for the college of health sciences and the entire students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital as a gas explosion which resulted in a fire outbreak at a students residential building has left one dead and another critically injured in the ICU.
The Gas explosion was said to have generated a loud noise with students saying they could hear the sound from their lodges.
Three 500L Medical Students and a Radiography Intern (who graduated from CHS Nnewi just last year) were affected by the incident. The students affected were Ogbu 
Uchenna who contested the last NAUMSA Presidential Elections, Paschalino former DOG of NAUMSA and Franklin former PRO.

He was reported dead after efforts to save him failed. He died as a result of a head collision with the ground while trying to escape the fire.
