Patients at The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital(UCTH) have complained that the absence of nurses and midwives is affecting their treatement.
The hospital Branch of the National Associton of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM),last Monday Began an indefinite strike for alleged unpaid three years allowance and other allowance, promotional and other condition among others. UCTH’s NANNM Chairman, Sylvester Ugor, told our reporter that the association started the strike, following what he called the futile attempts to make the management address its demands, especially the payment of uniform allowance.
When our reporter visited patients relieved tales of woe.
The few doctors on hand tried to attend to patients.
At the Maternity section an expectant mother said: What has been happening is that from registering at records, you go straight to the doctors. We have no one to check our blood pressure, urine weight and other vital signs. I must say it is a dangerous situation here for us although the doctors are trying their best But it is far from enough.
