Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu on Sunday decried the absence of modern and well-equipped hospitals that would meet the health needs of the people in the South-east zone of Nigeria.
Underscoring the need for modern health facilities in the zone, the governor noted that when the diagnostic centre project embarked upon by Enugu State government is completed, it will reduce the current craving of the people of the zone for medical attention outside the country.
Ugwuanyi in a speech when the management team of Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a Chevron Oil Company and Agbami co-ventures paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Enugu, appealed to the group to come to the aid of the zone by establishing a befitting hospital in the area to promote health care delivery for the people.
The governor equally requested the group of companies to establish a modern library for the large number of institutions of higher learning in Enugu State to facilitate not only teaching and learning, but to encourage research works among the lecturers and students, adding that indigent students from the state also needed scholarship from the group.
He commended the group of oil ventures for building and opening a fully-equipped chest clinic complex at the District Hospital in Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State to improve the health care delivery in the area.
In his words,’” I am convinced that you are worthy partner that has touched our hearts and lives of our people. May my good Lord reward you”.

Earlier in a speech, the representative of the Managing Director of Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, Mr. Stan Otuonye informed the governor that the group was in Enugu State to commission an equipped Chest clinic complex built by it at the Ogurute District Hospital, Enugu-Ezike to promote health care delivery in the area.
Otuonye who is also a Director in Deep Water Petroleum noted that the group of oil companies had built 24 chest clinics in different parts of Nigeria. According to him, apart from the chest clinics, several other projects are either on-going or completed by the group in parts of the country.
He added that the co-ventures have instituted specialized educational scholarship programmes in support of health and engineering manpower development in Nigeria through targeted support.
The Director added that the group among others is into economic empowerment whereby it helps farmers increase food production.
He disclosed that Agbami oil field, one of the greatest oil producers in Nigeria is located about 70 miles offshore Nigeria, adding that in line with the principle of deep offshore oil exploration the area is viewed as belonging to the entire country, hence the Agbami Group has been intervening in the areas of education and health across the country.
He enumerated the Agbami co-ventures as Fanfa oil, NNPC, Statoil, Chevron, Petrobras Nigeria.
