The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) branch of the Joint Action Congress (JAC), has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the management of the hospital to pay allowances it owed nine of its staff that were promoted in 2012.

Chairman of the (JAC, Comrade Oricha Steve, who spoke with newsmen shortly after addressing members of the union in Gwagwalada yesterday, said if the hospital management fails to pay the allowances of the affected workers, the union will embark on indefinite strike. 
He said the union discovered that a certain cadre of staff of the hospital was paid, while others working in the same hospital were not paid, the situation that prompted the union to issue the seven-day strike warning. 

He also said there is a teaching allowance that ought to have been given to the staff of the hospital, but alleged that the hospital management has denied the staff.
He alleged further that the management converted the hospital’s trauma centre into private partnership, making it expensive and out of reach of poor Nigerians.
Reacting, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Dr. Peter Alabi, said the management actually received a letter of ultimatum, adding that all the issues raised were not new.

He said the management had met several times with the union to deliberate over some of the issues, adding that management will only pay those whose names were approved, but not outside the names that were not submitted.
