University of Abuja has commenced the process of establishing a school of Pharmacy to complement it’s College of Health Sciences.
A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the University’s Deputy Registrar Information and Publications, Waziri Garba stated this.
The statement said Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Micheal Adikwu disclosed this during the inauguration of a six- man Committee to work out modalities for the successful take -off of the Pharmaceutical Sciences programme and four new programmes.
The statement said Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering and Agriculture were now on the course having been approved by their relevant professional bodies.
The Committee would utilize existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic matters between the University and the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) Abuja to facilitate the commencement of the Pharmaceutical programme, the VC had said. The VC further explained that the Committee headed by Professor A.U Asunkwo of the College of Medical Sciences of the University was to design an academic curriculum for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science include details of how all levels of its students would recieve their training within and out side the university as well as provide a time line for the possible commencement of studies.
The statement added that the VC also disclosed that the University’s Governing Council had approved the allocation of land to the Entological Society of Nigeria on the main campus to build the national Secretariat of the society.
According to him, part of the conditions for the provision of the land was that the Society would provide lecture facilities within the Secretariat for use by the University when completed as part of its corporate social responsibility.
