THE College of Medical Science in the Faculty of Allied Medical Science, University of Calabar, (UNICAL), recently inducted 52 radiographers into the Radiographer Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN). At a colourful ceremony held at the Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence Auditorium of the institution, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Epoke, congratulated the graduands on the feat and warned them against violating the ethics of the profession. 

 

Epoke also warned the new inductees not to be complacent in aspiring to academic knowledge that will boost their professional achievement. He drew their attention to the low number of radiographers in Nigeria and charged them to practise their profession positively in accordance with the oath which they had taken. He also advised them to be good ambassadors of the institution. 

 

 

In his remarks, the Provost of College of Medical Science, Prof. Maurice Asuquo, said the journey which started about five years ago has ended successfully. He was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof. Victor Ansa. Asuquo noted that various challenges were encountered during their studies, but he urged them to see such obstacles as necessary in their character-moulding. He called on the graduands to practise their profession with a high degree of honesty, diligence and transparency while urging them not to forget that the lives of human beings are in their hands. 

 

Speaking earlier, the Dean of Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Francis Useh, said the profession had gathered a great momentum in the institution having graduated over 1000 radiographers. He implored the new inductees to use their training to improve the service delivery to the health sector and embrace the attributes of sincerity, honesty, dedication which he said were inculcated into them during their studies in the university.
