The Bauchi Field Office of UNICEF, health stakeholders and nutrition specialists on Thursday began a meeting in Jos to review the UN body’s action plan on nutrition, sanitation and child protection.
The mid-year parley, according to Dr Drissa Yeo, UNICEF’s water, sanitation and hygiene specialist, became necessary toward attaining better result by addressing issues and bottlenecks on the path to success.
“The review will assist UNICEF and its implementing partners to identify challenges encountered in the course of the year and to factor out ways of addressing them.
“This meeting is very important because in development work, review of actual implementation action plans remains sacrosanct.

“Such reviews will help us identify results achieved and constraints faced in implementing key objectives, especially emerging and unforeseen challenges and situations. “If such challenges are identified, we can work out ways of addressing them for better results to be achieved in the future,” he said.
Yeo said that the meeting would also develop new priority and action plans for the 2017.
He explained that the early development of next year’s action plans was to enable UNICEF align its programmes with the priorities of government.
“We have decided that new action plans for 2017 will be developed in this meeting because we need to align UNICEF-supported programmes with priorities of government,” he said.
The official expressed optimism that the meeting would fashion out steps toward a better implementation of programmes that would improve the lives of women and children.
He commended Plateau State Government for the support rendered in terms of releasing counterpart funding and urged the state to do more in ameliorating the plights of vulnerable women and children in the state.
NAN reports that the meeting, which began on Thursday, would last for two days.
Stakeholders at the meeting are drawn from government ministries and agencies, implementing partners and other partners in Plateau. (NAN)
