All roads led to the University auditorium on the blissful day of 13^th January,2015. It was the day The prestigious University of Ilorin inducted the first batch of her 32^nd set of medical graduands into the medical profession.  The University’s Medical school since its inception has been committed to this initiating tradition and this time, it was the turn of 55 medical graduands[Primus Interpares] to take the Hippocratic oath.

With a beaming sense of pride, the Guest speaker, Prof(Mrs). Kikelomo Osinusi, a professor cum erudite in the field of Paediatrics at The University of Ibadan, gave the ceremonial speech titled “Raising the profile of women in Medicine; implications for healthcare delivery in the 21^st century” . She implored the graduating class of 2015/16 to take their work important and allow humility to guide their paths to and fro the vicissitudes of life.

 

 “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you as a Medic, care.” Prof. Kikelomo adjudged, ascertaining the fact that malpractice and lackadaisical attitude on the part of a doctor impedes and frustrates his/her trust and ingenuity.  She further urged the women in medicine and the health sector at large to keep the flag flying and ensure the state of the country’s healthcare doesn’t fall into decay.

The Vice-Chancellor of The University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali ably represented by Prof. Olatunji, A Unilorin Don, congratulated the outgoing class and reminded them that the care of a patient is entrusted wholly in the hands of a doctor and that they should strive hard to ensure its upkeep. The College Dean of Basic Medical sciences, Prof. A.A Akande, introduced and acknowledged the Medical elders(The medical elders are seasoned Medical doctors who have achieved great feats in the field of medicine and the likes);  as required by the age-long Hippocratic tradition, for which each medical graduand, as they solemnly affirm the Oath, shall bow in homage and respect to, alongside to the special guests also.

Forthwith, the best graduating medical student of the set, Dr. Yusuf Faidat bagged a heapload of prices alongside hearty cheers and thunderous applause. This wonderful lady  whose distinguished awards added-up to a total of thirteen include; College Annual Prize award donated by the Academic Staff of the College of Health Sciences (Unilorin) to Best student in Maternal and Child Health, Annual Prize donated by the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) to Best female student in Maternal and Child Health, Annual Prize donated by Academic Staff College of Health Sciences to the Best student in Pathology, the Professor Mathew Akinyemi Araoye Annual Prize to Best student in Medicine; She also bagged prices in Surgery, Pathology and also the overall best Preclinical student of her set. Faidat, having had a chit-chat with her, was bubbling with smiles and giggles as she said the secret behind her success was not far-fetched. “I work hard, play a lot and pray well; I just do what I should do and maintain a good relationship with everyone I come across”, She remarked.  She enjoined her juniors and incomers to keep being themselves and enjoy what they are doing come what may. Dr. Faidat plans to specialize in Paediatrics or Medicine depending on what Time dictates.

In conclusion, the Provost of the College of health sciences, Prof. Wahab Rotimi Johnson gave the vote of thanks and advised the graduating class to set good examples for themselves and for the ones coming after them. He reminded the graduands to be sure to attend the school Convocation ceremony later in the year, after which they will become graduates of the University of Ilorin stating further that the induction ceremony was a professional one which did not take the place of the academic one.
