UNN College of Medicine Rolls out Drums for Emeritus Professors

...As UNTH CMD names Prof Obianyo his role model 
 
The College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) is. still savouring the honour it got at the 4511 Convocation of the university held recently. 
 
At the convocation, the UNN Vice Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozumba, had included six retired professors froth the College of Medicine for recognition to be honoured as emeritus professors. 
 
The six emeritus professors that  were honoured were. Nene Obianyo, Peter Ebigbo. John Oli Jonathan Azubuike, Paul Okonkwo and Prof. Uchenna Megafu. 
 
And after the convocation, in the spirit of celebrating the six, the Provost of the College of Medicine. Prof Ernest Onwasit,wve, recently organised a reception for them at Roban Hotels, Enugu. 
 
He said the reception was to appreciate the emeritus professors, who are members of the college family. 
 
He commended the vice chancellor for upgrading. the professors to the revered academic status of emeritus professors in recognition of their contributions to educa-tion and medicine. 
 
The provost said that the recognition by UNN the first time six professors from the College of Medicine were elevated at the same time. 
 
Also speaking at the reception. the Chief Medical Director of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospi-tal (UNTH), Ituku-Ozala, Enugu State, Dr Chris Arnah, disclosed that the medical training and leadership tuto-rials he acquired at the CNN College of Medicine have truly transformed him and prepared him for leadership. Describing the; t of Nigeria as an institution and a citadel of learning with a difference, Dr Amah, a re-nowned paediatric surgeon, expressed profound gratitude.
 
"Despite that this rare krican scholar and medical genus did not nave the opportunity of political positions while in active service, her rare feat in the separation of a Siamese twins at the UNTH in 1976, the first in Africa, made her to become my role model any day, I'm proud of her and I remain grateful to her because she gave me the best professional training in paediatric surgery" to his teachers for making him achieve his childhood dream of becoming a medical doctor. 
 
Dr Amah praised Clod that all the professors recognised by the UNN as emeritus prolessors were his teachers Ott the College of Medicine. 
 
He said that although he appreciated all thy- esiforts of the medical giants, it was the doyen of paediatric medicine, Emerinis Prof Nene Obianyo, that truly molded him into what he is today. 
 
According to him, "despite that this rare .African seholar and medical genus did not have the opportunity of political positions while in active service, her rare feat in the separation of a Siames twins at the UNTH in 1976, the first in Attica, made her to become my role model any day, I'm proud of her and I remain grateful to her because she gave me the best professional training in paediatric surgery." 
He. however, promised to make cash rewards to the eminent scholars. but noted that the reward tbr Emeritus Prof Obianyo would be doubled. 
 
Prof Obianyo had served as the provost of the College of Medicine of the Enugu State University of Science and Technoloy (ESUT) Teaching Hospital. Park Lane. Enugu, before her retirement.
