Members of the union last night met President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House in Abuja to discuss ways of resolving the strike.

 

It was gathered that during the meeting, promises were made from the president who reportedly appealed to JOHESU members to call off the strike.

 

News making the round this morning has it that "The strike action embarked upon by health workers in Nigeria under the umbrella body of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) will be called off at 2pm today (Monday)"

 

 

On receiving numerous calls and messages bringing this to our attention Nursingworld made various calls to some JOHESU Members, NANNM Officials and Comrade Badmus to confirm if it was true.

 

A contact from JOHESU on the condition of not being named said that "yes, gestures were made last week that the strike action "might" be called off, but nothing has been decided yet"

 

On contacting the JOHESU Secretary Comr. Badmus to confirm if the post had any element of truth to it, he said that a meeting between the JOHESU Council Members has not being held and any conclusions to the effect of calling off the ongoing strike action have not made or decided on, he cathegorically stated that untill the meeting is held no decision would be taken yet.

 

He fumed that "How can a news start flying about in the media that we are going to call off the strike when we haven't even decided to call it off yet?"

 

"Yes, we met yesterday with the Government, we have to meet and discuss with our members first to decide on our next mode of action, so please to all members of JOHESU and everyone else, we would issue a circular and a press release when and if the strike action would be called off."

 

"We are going to have a meeting today, after the meeting we would know what our next move is".
