US Research Team on Kidney Disease to Foster Partnerships on Postgraduate Training in LASUTH

H3Africa Kidney Disease Research Network Team from United States led by one of the principal investigators, Prof Akinlolu Ojo recently paid a visit to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
 
The Chief Medical Director (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo explained the vision of the hospital to the research team. He said, “we welcome you to LASUTH, a place where we have tall ambitions and we strive towards achieving them. We have had a few renal transplant missions and we are at the vanguard of enacting the use of cadaveric kidney law in Lagos State.

Prof. Ojo in his remarks gave an assurance that the team would be glad to partner with LASUTH and contribute to the progress and growth in the hospital. “We will be glad to engage a bilateral exchange of post graduate students which we hope to take place in the nearest future”.
 
Speaking on the core of the research, Dr. Sholarin, a member of the Nephrology Unit in LASUTH, noted that “the current ongoing research work of which LASUTH came on board in 2018, will allow us to look at the role of genetic and environmental factors in the development and progression of kidney disease. She believes the visit will foster a strong collaboration between the hospital and the team beyond the current research.
 
The H3Africa Kidney Disease Research Network is part of the Human Hereditary and Health in Africa (H3Africa) initiative which receives its funding from the National Institute of Health.
