The latest data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has shown that meningitis outbreak that was reported in Niger between January 4 to March 13, has left not less than 61 people dead out of a total of 730 detected cases across the entire national territory.
It noted that Niamey recorded 248 infected cases, out of which six people died during the period. According to the WHO, the most affected age bracket was between five to 14 years.
WHO highlighted that in 2015, a meningitis outbreak killed over 573 people out of 8,500 cases that were detected in Niger.
