As part of activities to mark the 2015 World AIDS Day, the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN), yesterday organised an HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) programme in Lugbe area of Abuja.
Briefing newsmen later, Programme Officer IHVN, Mr. Ngozi Ajaero said the outcome of the results showed that people were becoming more enlightened about HIV/AIDS. He said: “So far, we’ve recorded one negative. People are taking this issue very seriously by doing the right thing; having sex with condoms at all time and ensuring they don’t share shape objects with others.”
According to him, IHVN’s motive was to ensure that the public understands the mode of transmission and ensuring that they avoid things that would expose them to the virus.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Bola Tajudeen told Daily Trust that the findings from her test showed she was negative and that she was scared before the result was made known to her.
Also, Mrs. Mary Bakare said she got tested whenever the opportunity presented itself.
While applauding IHVN for bringing the programme to the community, she advised the general public to stick to one partner.
