ViCE Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodio University, prof. Abdullahi Zuru, has told the 52 graduands of the College of Health Sciences not to consider themselves "accomplished doctors" yet merely by taking the professional oath of office.
Zuru, who spoke at their oath-taking ceremony, said that though they had persevered to reach that stage, they would need additional perseverance to overcome the many challenges on the way to the zenith of their careers, adding that what they had done "in the last six or so official years was to learn how to learn."
He told them: "You still need further trainings, starting with your internship, through the NYSC (for those below the age threshold) to residency (for those aspiring to be consultants).
"So, please do not leave here today with erroneous belief that you are an accomplished doctor. If you do and overstep the bounds, the regulating body will withdraw your licence and the university will withdraw your certificate. Remember, we confer degrees in both learning and character."
Nevertheless, Zuru told the graduands that they were adding to the nation's capacity in the area of providing health care to the people in particular and
humanity in general.
