2nd African Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity

The 2nd African Conference on EID and Biosecurity is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from the 27th to 29th of July 2016. The conference, being hosted by the Lagos State Government Ministry of Health, will revisit the Dakar Declaration and focus on some key deficiencies outlined in the Declaration, which include Biobanking, Biodata, Biosafety, Biosecurity, Science Communication and the Public Learning and Understanding of Science (PLUS) and create a platform to debate a vaccine strategy for the Ebola belt.

Dates: July 27-29, 2016.

Venue: Eko Hotels & Suites Plot 1415 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria

This is the first call for abstracts for a poster presentation or a 10 minute oral presentation under any of the following themes.

The top 5 abstracts of the conference as judged by a panel in any of the 4 categories will be rewarded with a $500 dollar prize.

The 4 Thematic areas and parallel sessions are as follows:

1. Emerging Infectious Diseases as an accelerating phenomenon and the aftermath of the Ebola outbreak, with the following sub themes:

a. Survivors and survivor welfare

b. Plasma and a Plasmapheresis agenda for West Africa

c. New EID trends Lassa, Zika, MERS, SARS and Pandemic Influenza.

d. Clinical trials

2. Biosecurity and Biothreat Reduction: Biobanking, Bioinformatics, Biosafety, Biosecurity and Bioethics concerns in the aftermath of the largest Ebola outbreak known to man.

a. Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA)

b. Public health crises management

c. International biosecurity Conventions: Biological Weapons Convention and United Nations 1540 Security Council Resolution.

d. International Health Regulations (IHR) and Practice of Veterinary Services (PVS)

e. Biosecurity and biobanking Infrastructure

3. Science Communication and the Public Learning and Understanding of Science (PLUS) with the following sub-themes (Please consult the Conference website for further background elaboration on these Thematic areas):

a. Science Communication & PLUS in Africa: Policy Development Challenges and Opportunities

b. Good Practice programmes and projects implementation — African Models for Science Communication and PLUS as a containment strategy for EID

Please note the following:

• Abstract format should be Title, Author(s), Institutional address, Introduction, Main body of work, Conclusion.

• Abstract should not exceed 300 words including the title.

• You will be notified of the fate of your submission by the 30th of June, and if your abstract is accepted for presentation you will enjoy a 50% reduction on conference registration fees.

• Kindly indicate the thematic area of your abstract and your preferred mode of presentation (Poster or Oral).
