The Abia State Government has successfully concluded a professional healthcare training programme aimed at strengthening emergency response and improving patient outcomes across the state. The training was implemented through a strategic partnership involving the Abia State Diaspora Commission and MedicalWorld Nigeria, a leading Nigerian healthcare training, certification, and capacity-building organisation.
The programme, which has already been held in Umuahia, focused on Basic Life Support (BLS) and *Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) —critical life-saving skills essential for frontline healthcare workers. The sessions were designed and delivered with strong technical input from MedicalWorld Nigeria, ensuring international best practices, hands-on simulation, and competency-based learning.
Speaking during the programme, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, reiterated that the training aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s health sector reform agenda, which prioritises continuous professional development for health workers, especially those serving in primary healthcare centres and general hospitals across Abia State. He urged participants to fully apply the skills acquired and cascade the knowledge to colleagues in their respective facilities.
The Chairman of the Abia State Diaspora Commission, Mr. Okechukwu Agbara, highlighted the importance of diaspora-driven collaborations in strengthening local healthcare capacity. He commended MedicalWorld Nigeria for providing structured training, professional facilitation, and certification support that meets both national and international standards.
Further reinforcing the programme’s depth and quality, Dr. Odinaka Anyanwu (USA), Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Training Lead, alongside Dr. Nnenna Ihekoromadu, Founder of Quantus Medical Foundation, Texas, USA, actively participated in the training. Both experts took turns guiding participants through practical, hands-on life-saving techniques, sharing real-world clinical experience and reinforcing the collective goal of building a healthier Abia State.
The successful completion of the training underscores the impact of MedicalWorld Nigeria’s leadership in healthcare education, particularly in bridging global expertise with local healthcare needs. The partnership demonstrates how government institutions, diaspora professionals, and credible Nigerian training organisations can work together to build sustainable healthcare capacity and improve service delivery across the state
