The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association says it has lost one of its members to coronavirus while 33 others have also been infected with the disease.
The state chairman of the NMA, Dr Sanusi Bala, revealed this in an interview with our correspondent in Kano on Tuesday. However, he said the 33 doctors currently receiving medical attention were getting better and would be discharged from hospital.
Bala said they had resolved that their members would not risk their lives if Personal Protection Equipment were not provided for them. The NMA chief said, “The doctors were infected while on duty and attending to patients with symptoms of the coronavirus.”
According to him, they are still compiling the list of affected doctors. Bala, “Yes, we have developed a feedback mechanism system whereby we access each facility, and report what we have seen to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
“But what we all agreed is that, all doctors if they don’t have PPEs, they shouldn’t risk their lives.”
