Cybercrime Charges Crumble: Nigerian Doctor Bolanle Aseyan Walks Free in Explosive Court Twist!

Abuja, Nigeria — August 8, 2025 In a dramatic courtroom showdown, the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed all cybercrime charges against Nigerian medical doctor Bolanle Aseyan, ending a high-profile legal battle that captivated both the medical and legal communities.

Justice Peter Lifu ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the essential elements of the alleged offences, which included defamation, harassment, and intimidation of UK-based doctor Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya via social media.

The case, which stemmed from a bitter fallout between the two former lovers—both trained medical professionals—unfolded with shocking revelations. The court heard that the pair had a romantic relationship that soured after a controversial visit to the UK in 2020. Aseyan alleged she was sexually assaulted after consuming alcohol offered by Ogunsanya, sparking a series of online accusations and counterclaims.

Despite the police presenting three witnesses, the court found critical gaps in the evidence, including the absence of Aseyan’s social media handle as an exhibit. Justice Lifu emphasized that the alleged threats and intimidation were not substantiated, and instead, there was clear evidence of a prior romantic relationship.

In a decisive ruling, the judge ordered the immediate return of Aseyan’s seized properties, including her international passport.

This verdict not only clears Aseyan’s name but also raises questions about the handling of cybercrime allegations and the role of law enforcement in personal disputes.
