In a major step toward enhancing emergency care readiness and healthcare competence, the Health and Social Care (HSC) students of the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba have successfully completed intensive training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation.
The comprehensive, hands-on program focused on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and emergency response skills, as well as specialized techniques for the resuscitation and stabilization of newborns in distress. The training was designed to equip future healthcare professionals with the knowledge and confidence required to save lives in both adult and neonatal emergencies.
The Basic Life Support (BLS) training was organized by Medicalworld Nigeria, a leading provider of healthcare education and certification programs in the country, in collaboration with the College’s management. The Neonatal Resuscitation session was facilitated by Dr. (Mrs.) Ati-Makpah Victoria, a National Train-the-Trainer Facilitator with the Paediatric Association of Nigeria, who guided the students through critical life-saving procedures essential for managing newborns with breathing difficulties immediately after birth.
The program received wide commendation from both faculty and students, who praised the College’s commitment to promoting excellence in healthcare education and professional skill development.
The Rector, Dr. Aloysius Okezie, was particularly lauded for his visionary leadership and continued investment in student training and capacity-building initiatives. His dedication has positioned the institution as a leading model of excellence in health education across the region.
Similarly, the Head of Department, Dr. Ngozi Ejimonu, was celebrated for her outstanding coordination and commitment to academic and professional excellence. Her efforts ensured the smooth execution of the training and provided students with valuable hands-on experience in life-saving procedures.
This combined BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation training marks a significant milestone in the College’s ongoing mission to produce competent, compassionate, and well-prepared healthcare professionals capable of responding effectively to emergencies across all age groups.
With this achievement, the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba, continues to lead the way in advancing healthcare education and aligning with global standards of clinical excellence in Nigeria.
