Job Description

Context:

  • Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Nigeria for administrative matters, and the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and the Regional Nurse Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical, administrative and project management support for migration health assessments and treatment of refugees assisted by the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) Nigeria.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor nursing operations within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) facilitating smooth delivery of health assessment activities, including: logistic preparation for screening, handling and safekeeping of individual medical files, facilitating the collection of biodata and medical history, ensuring identity checks of the applicants and confidentiality of information throughout the screening process in Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) and Medical Mission sites.
  • Assist in coordinating technical and administrative activities in Health Assessment Programme and contribute to the planning and implementation of resettlement and other migration health programs.This assistance includes the compiling and organizing data, reports and documentation related to health assessments.
  • Contribute to maintaining compliance that these programmes fulfil the technical requirements of the resettlement countries, including standardization, Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) of all aspects of the medical examination and documentation process.

 

Support the CMHO in planning, implementing, and monitoring the health assessment programs as follows:

  • Coordinating administrative duties and leaves of the staff under their supervision.
  • Tracking and ensuring proper inventory management of medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals, including monitoring expiry dates.
  • Identifying areas for improvement for the migration health assessment programmes and supporting the implementation of best practices.
  • Support coordination with various health service providers, other departments in the mission, other IOM Missions and MHD/HQ on clinical, administrative and financial matters.
  • Monitor the proper identification and handling of biological samples, maintain strict client confidentiality. Supervise the specimen collection procedure including sputum collection, TB screening processes and ensure proper treatment adherence. Coordinate, monitor, and conduct fitness to travel check and any other heath assessment related activities in the camp clinics.
  • Facilitate the planning and coordination vaccination activities ensuring compliance with the best practices and recommendations according to the technical instruction.
  • Contribute to the communicable disease prevention, health education and hygiene promotion activities of Transits centers and other migration health facilities.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners include health service providers, panel physicians, other clinicians (e.g., consultants), and IOM Migration Health and Operations staff in the mission.
  • Identify training needs of the Nurses and Auxiliary staff, contributing to the development of training plan and support on the capacity building of the Nurses and Auxiliary staff under CMHO guidance.
  • Perform escort duties and duty travel as required.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited academic institution
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing with two years of relevant professional experience.
  • A valid license to practice nursing in the country of duty station, if applicable.

 

Experience:

Clinical experience as a registered Nurse;

  • Experience in TB programmes, migration health, disease control, and public health of refugees and migrants as Nurse in an international organization, UN agency or hospital;
  • Good writing, communication and negotiation skills;
  • Good knowledge of nursing principles, techniques and procedures: knowledge of public health as well as general migration related issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detail, accuracy and confidentiality at all levels of the health assessment process;
  • Good level of computer literacy;
  • Knowledge of specialized medical software is required. Knowledge of eMedical and Mimosa Web is an advantage.
  • Experience in procurement procedures and inventory management an added advantage

 

Skills:

  • Familiarity with IOM’s administrative, financial, and business rules and practices; and
  • Excellent proven written and oral communication skills; ability to clearly communicate health-related topics to non-health audiences; and,
  • Ability to work in close coordination with a broad range of different units, divisions, and colleagues on various topics/initiatives to achieve a common objective

 

Languages:

  • External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
  • For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
  • Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
