Health Protection Law ’Ll Boost Fight Against COVID-19 – Virologist

A medical virologist at the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Dr Oladipo Kolawole, has said the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulation 2021 policy would help in the fight against COVID-19

Kolawole, in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, however, expressed worry over the implementation of the law, saying the security agents could not be everywhere to arrest or apprehend people disobeying the COVID-19 protocols.

“This is definitely a step in the right direction; it will go a long way. The fight against the virus is still on and we are yet to conquer the virus. The non-pharmaceutical measures are still the effective way of prevention in a country like this because we do not have access to any vaccine as of today.

“I am not worried at all about the implementation of the law because there are security agencies that have been saddled with such responsibilities, though we are yet to see the full implementation of it. Though looking at it from the other hand it may seem difficult too because the security agencies cannot be everywhere but once we have scapegoats the citizens will obey the law,” Kolawole said.

Buhari had on January 26 signed the bill which mandated the compulsory use of face masks in public spaces to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

The bill among others also prohibits the gathering of more than 50 persons in an enclosed space except for religious purposes, in which the gathering must not be more than 50 per cent capacity of the space.
