Job Title: Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care (iKMC) IEC Consultant

Objective
- Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care (iKMC) is a proven, cost-effective intervention that significantly improves the survival and health outcomes of preterm and low-birth-weight infants.
- It involves immediate skin-to-skin contact between the mother (or caregiver) and the newborn/infant. To ensure effective implementation, developing IEC materials is crucial in raising awareness and promoting this life-saving practice.
- These materials will highlight the importance, benefits, and step by step instructions for both healthcare workers and caregivers, enabling them to understand and can implement iKMC effectively.
Specific objectives are to design and develop iKMC IEC (BCC/Job aids) materials that will:
- Align with culture, local beliefs, languages and healthcare practices
- Raise awareness about the importance and benefits of Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care (iKMC).
- Provide clear, visually engaging materials and actionable guidance on how to implement iKMC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review current IEC materials related to Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing content in conveying key messages about iKMC.
- Design and develop clear, concise, and engaging educational materials that explain the benefits and practices of iKMC.
- Develop various formats of materials, such as posters, fliers, Infographics to reach diverse audiences.
- Ensure that the content is evidence-based and reflects the latest WHO guidelines on iKMC.
- Present draft IEC materials to technical working groups, healthcare workers, and end-users for feedback.
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive report summarizing the development process and key findings.
- Submit the draft IEC materials to stakeholders for review and feedback, and ensure that any revisions are incorporated.
- Submit the finalized IEC materials in both print-ready and electronic formats for printing.
Deliverables
- Need assessment report.
- A draft set of IEC materials for review by key stakeholders.
- The finalized set of IEC materials in both print-ready and electronic formats (including design file).
- A final comprehensive report summarizing the need assessment, key findings and development of the materials.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Medical Doctor or Nurse/ Midwife with specialization in Neonatal/Paediatric care.
- Advanced degree in medicine, Communication, Social and behavioral Sciences, and Public Health (MPH) would be an advantage.
- At least 5 years clinical practice experience in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.
- Strong understanding of immediate Kangaroo Mother Care and its importance for neonatal survival.
- Excellent writing, editing, and design skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Internet.
