As reports continue to spread about Nigeria's fragile healthcare system struggling to cope with the Coronavirus outbreak and healthcare providers crying out over the lack of Personal Protective Equipment, which is essential if they must be protected from the virus whilst lamenting the cost burden placed on patients already vulnerable in their condition to provide PPEs before care is given.

Mamora, the PTF taskforce on COVID19 lead on the First (1st) of May 2020 in a televised Q & A session responded to the report that Patients Were Being Asked To Buy PPEs In Hospitals

He said the following:

M: Without mincing words it is unacceptable amd condemnable, I do not expect any facility to be making such demands to patients, additionally we would def seek additional info with this regard to enable us do approprite investigation and take appropriate remedial action in this regard.

I think it is bad enough that a patient comes to the hospital and you compound the problems by making demands that are notwithng the ambient of what is expected. So we would look into that and we hope information would be shared with us and put in place our own machinary in other to know who exactly these culprits are.

We will also want to know if this is taking place in our tertiary hospitals or the federal owned institutions or the state, we would definately want to seek intervention and do what is right.
