The Katsina State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, on Wednesday, disowned two women arrested over alleged theft of a new born baby girl abandoned by her mother in a private hospital in Katsina.

The NANNM described the women as impostors. The state Chairman of the association, Haruna Mamman, made this known at a press conference in Katsina.

Mamman explained that he and his team had visited the hospital, where the baby was abandoned, and also the headquarters of the state police command, where they met the two women, to ascertain their identities.

He said, “We visited the hospital and interviewed the proprietor of the hospital, and the two impostors, Misira S. Tijani of Filin Canada Quarter, Katsina, and Grace Ejigu of Shagari Low Cost Housing Estate, and our findings revealed that they are fake and impostors.

“The proprietor of the hospital and the two impostors even admitted that they were not trained and qualified nurses.

“We complained to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in whose office and before everyone present, they confessed that they were not nurses, whereas a day before, they told the police authority that they were nurses.”

Mamman said the two women would be prosecuted for impersonation and defamation in order to clear the association’s name and image. Tijani and Ejiogu were paraded on Monday at the police headquarters, Katsina, along with another woman, Eucharia Onyema, for alleged theft of the baby girl, who was abandoned at the hospital by her mother, one Shamsiya Sani, who is currently at large.
