In a move set to bolster healthcare delivery in Kogi State, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State branch, has showered praises on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a crucial waiver and cash backing for the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja (FTHL). This landmark decision paves the way for the hospital to employ additional staff, particularly medical doctors, ensuring improved service delivery and patient care.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Kogi State NMA Chairman, Dr. Hassan Abubakar, lauded the Federal Government’s proactive approach, extending his appreciation to the Minister of Health, the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Hospital Services, the Head of Service of the Federation, and the Budget Office. He emphasized that this approval would significantly aid the hospital’s management in reinforcing its medical workforce.

Commitment to Stability Amidst Challenges

Dr. Abubakar also took the opportunity to commend the leadership of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja for their resilience in navigating recent challenges that have rocked the institution. While acknowledging the disagreements that have arisen between the management and some aggrieved colleagues, he urged all parties to exercise patience and allow due process to take its course.

A Call for Fairness and Continuous Support

“The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State branch, applauds the efforts of the hospital’s management in maintaining stability despite the crisis. We appeal for calm on all sides, allowing the internal mechanisms of the institution to function effectively,” the statement read.

The NMA reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring developments within the hospital, ensuring that fairness prevails and no medical personnel is subjected to unjust treatment.

Once again, the association extended its gratitude for the waiver, urging the government to maintain its support for the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja. With this crucial intervention, the hospital is poised for a new era of growth, strengthening its role as a beacon of quality healthcare and medical training in Nigeria.
