The Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS) at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria, is addressing this gap by focusing on four core areas: clean energy, electrochemical systems, corrosion protection, and advanced functional materials. Through research, education, and partnerships, the center aims to develop new technologies and materials for efficient use of the region’s energy resources. ACE-FUELS, while helping to strengthen existing programs in the University, has also introduced new programs, while providing training and support for young entrepreneurs. The center also collaborates on multidisciplinary research projects to facilitate knowledge transfer and enable partner organizations to deliver challenging projects competitively.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Location: Owerri, Imo

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

• Operate, calibrate, and maintain screen-printing, deposition, and characterization equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Ensure optimal equipment performance with minimal downtime.

Process Optimization:

• Assist in refining screen-printing processes for large-area perovskite films.
• Implement protocols for consistent, pinhole-free coatings.
• Support trials of green solvents and interconnection techniques.

Quality Control:

• Conduct regular quality checks using IV testing, SEM, XRD, and other characterization tools.
• Maintain detailed records of fabrication processes and outcomes.

Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce strict laboratory safety protocols.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of chemicals and materials.

Requirements

• Candidates should possess relevant qualifications with experience.
