The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), pursuant to its statutory mandate to regulate medical laboratory services in Nigeria, and in line with the directive of the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, is about to commence a nationwide re-assessment of medical laboratory facilities in the country.
The aim of the exercise is to determine the current practice status of medical laboratory facilities with a view to influencing government policies that will engender quality diagnosis in the health sector. It is also to ensure that all medical laboratories operating in the country are fit for purpose and able to meet the yearnings of the citizens for accurate, reliable and timely medical laboratory test results.
In that regard, all medical laboratories whether private or government-owned, are required to complete the requisite online form (Following the link: https://labras.mlscn.gov.ng/) within 30 days from the date of this publication and prior to the of visit of the MLSCN inspection team.
In addition, all medical laboratories are encouraged to review their quality and safety practices for improved and effective service delivery. Stakeholders are encouraged to see this exercise as a patriotic one, in line with the desire of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to bequeath the highest standard of health care to the citizenry.
MLSCN is poised to work with stakeholders to transform the medical laboratory services sub sector by ensuring that medical laboratory facilities benchmark international best practices, reduce medical tourism and save the country's foreign exchange earnings.
