ASI UKPO DIAGNOSTICS & MEDICALS LIMITED, operator of ASI Ukpo Hospitals, is about to commence operation of the ASI Ukpo Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Calabar. This facility is poised to be the premier comprehensive cancer treatment centre in the South-South and South-East of Nigeria. We seek suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacancies:
JOB TITLE: MEDICAL & RADIATION ONCOLOGIST
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- MBBS & FWACS, Radiotherapy & Oncology or equivalent qualifications. Additional professional qualifications such as Fellowship IAEA, would be an advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years cognate post-qualification experience in the position of Senior Registrar or its equivalent, including proven experience and proficiency in Clinical Oncology, and in Radiation Oncology, with the use of external-beam and brachytherapy treatments, in a hospital with functional Radiotherapy equipment/facilities.
- Valid and current practicing license issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving and leadership skills.
- A caring and compassionate nature, sensitivity, empathy and an excellent bedside manner; emotional resilience to help patients through difficult times.
- A thorough and up-to-date working knowledge of cancers and cancer treatment options.
- Technical skills to operate medical equipment and tools related to cancer treatment.
Ability to:
- Provide/order appropriate medical examinations and properly document patients’ test and physical examination records to aid diagnosis and management of cancer.
- Explain cancer diagnosis and development stages to patients, communicate all relevant treatment options and recommend treatment plans.
- Oversee/manage patients’ care from cancer diagnosis throughout the course of the disease and monitor treatment plans with the aim of improving patients' quality of life.
- Coordinate, prescribe and administer courses of treatment for cancer patients, with the rest of the oncology team, including as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, medications, hormones, surgery etc. as may be required.
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients throughout their course of cancer treatment/management.
- Help patients manage cancer-related pain and other symptoms or treatment side effects.
- Remain up-to-date on the latest developments in Cancer treatment/management, and train team members.
