Job Title: Manager, Community Animal Health Worker Program

Summary

  • The Community Animal Health Worker Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) in the designated program state.
  • The primary objective of this role is to ensure the effective delivery of animal health services to communities, promoting animal welfare and public health.
  • The Manager will provide guidance, support, and training to the CAHWs, monitor their performance, and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance community outreach programs.

Responsibilities

Team Management:

  • Work with the state Desk officers to manage the trained Community Animal Health Workers.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to CAHWs, ensuring they have the necessary resources and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify training needs, and facilitate professional development opportunities for the team.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting open communication and teamwork.

Program Coordination:

  • Develop and implement community animal health programs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and community needs.
  • Coordinate all activities relating to the CAHWs within the program state and optimizing resources and ensuring efficient service delivery.
  • Monitor CAHW activity progress, evaluate outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with state, and private companies, and development organizations to enhance CAHWs’ effectiveness.
  • Identify potential opportunities for the company.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Provide continuous education and support to CAHWs, keeping them updated on new techniques, guidelines, and best practices in the community animal health field.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate community members about the activities of the CAHWs.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Monitor the daily reports from the CAHWs and ensure the CAHWs make use of the reporting tools.
  • Ensure accurate and timely collection of data related to animal health interventions, community outreach activities, and program outcomes.
  • Analyse data to assess and identify disease trends and generate reports for the management and the state when required.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of CAHW activities, including vaccination records, treatment plans, and community feedback.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and ethical standards by the State and Veterinary Council of Nigeria.
  • Monitor the quality of services provided by CAHWs, conducting periodic audits and assessments to maintain high standards of care.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives based on feedback, observations, and best practices.

Media and Communications:

  • Serve as a key point of contact for media.
  • Draft succinct and compelling written materials, including, memos, statements, Q&As, and more.
  • Show extraordinary judgment to manage communications challenges.
  • Support on a needed basis on drafting and posting news items on social media channels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science / DVM, Animal Health, Public Health, Project Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in community animal health or veterinary services, with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of animal health, disease prevention, and zoonotic diseases.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team of professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders.
  • Proficiency in data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate both team members and community members.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with local community dynamics and cultural sensitivities related to animal health practices.
  • Candidate must be resident in the selected state (Kano, Plateau and Bauchi states)
