Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine clinical laboratory tests to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.  

This role involves collecting samples, preparing specimens, operating laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate and timely test results under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Pathologist.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and label patient specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and other body fluids using proper techniques.
  • Prepare and analyze samples using microscopes, automated analyzers, and manual techniques.
  • Carry out routine laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, and urinalysis.
  • Record and report test results accurately and timely to physicians or supervising laboratory scientists.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and sterilized in accordance with lab protocols.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure accurate results.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and request replenishment as necessary.
  • Dispose of biohazardous waste properly and ensure cleanliness of work areas.
  • Participate in quality control and external quality assurance programs.
  • Keep confidential all patient and laboratory data in accordance with healthcare policies.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • National Diploma (ND), Certificate, or Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Current registration and license with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) or relevant regulatory body.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience (can include internship).
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and lab reporting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
