The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has proposed to the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to allow it work with the private sector to increase COVID-19 testing and treatment.

Also, the NHIS has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure its personnel are protected in the fight against Coronavirus.

The Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Mohammed Sambo, said NSCDC officials formed part of frontline workers, as they are in all isolation centres to protect patients.

He said the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, a few weeks ago, approached the NHIS and made a request to supply PPE to them. Sambo said: “If we protect our officers and men, we are therefore, assured of the provision of service delivery and protection of life and property.

“It is  important for NHIS to  provide PPE to organisations within its limited resources, because health care personnel constitute an integral part of COVID-19 response…” The Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Muhammadu received the items.
