EQUIPPING MIDWIFERY LABORATORIES WITH SAFE DELIVERY APP AND MAMA BIRTHIE SIMULATOR FOR IMPROVING MIDWIFERY EDUCATION AND PRACTICE

The Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at its 61st General Meeting held 5th — 6th April, 2023 has approved the introduction of Safe Delivery App and Mama Birthie birthing simulator to nursing institutions.

The aforementioned tools are current innovations in midwifery education and practice, and developed based on latest World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

The Safe Delivery App shows how to effectively manage a woman from pregnancy to child birth as well as complications that may arise in the course. The App is free, flexible and works offline.

In view of its relevance to improving competencies of midwifery students, nursing/midwifery training institutions are hereby directed to equip their Midwifery laboratories with the Safe Delivery App and Mama Birthie simulator as well as ensure their utilization in teaching/hands on demonstration.

The Safe Delivery App is available in global and adaptive versions and can be downloaded online.

Global Version is available in English, French & Arabic languages and can be implemented at pre-service & in-service levels. It can also, be shared on learning platform and does not require personal information.

Mama Birthie Birth Simulator was developed by Leardal Health and can be accessed and purchased online.

Please give due attention to the content of this circular as we all work together to improve maternal and child health nursing services in Nigeria.
