Summary
- We are looking to fill the Nursing Team Supervisor Anka position in our Zamfara Secondary Healthcare Project, Anka
Main Objective and Responsibility of the position
- Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action
General Accountabilities
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
- Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
- Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
- Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
- Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
- MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities
Specific Accountabilities:
- Under the outreach NAM, the Anka NTS is directly supervising and overseeing all medical activities carried out at the NEP Clinic, including OPD, ATFC, RH, Sexual Violence & Abduction survivors, Vaccination and Health Promotion.
- The MSF NTS works in close collaboration with the MoH NTS to improve the quality of patient care, drug management, staff management and to harmonize the monthly medical reports.
The NTS based in Anka is MSF's representative in LGA. Among his various responsibilities are the following:
- Ensure community engagement in project activities (awareness raising, disease surveillance, malnutrition screening and referral of patients to the clinic).
- Ensure the availability of items needed to maintain hygiene and IPC measures in clinics (hand-washing points, hand sanitizers, separation and treatment of biomedical waste, etc.).
- The supervisor ensures all necessary stationaries are available in the facility and the drinking water is available for patients and staff.
- Ensure proper patient flow (appropriate triage to reduce waiting time, orientation to the consultation/clinic, dispensaries, etc.).
- The supervisor ensures that bracelets are dated before placing them on children's arms at admission.
- They are collected when the children are discharged and shown to him/her to ensure that the length of stay in the program is respected.
- Ensure all staff under him/her know the PEP protocol (what to do in case of accidental exposure).
- The supervisor ensures vaccination for routine immunization is provided regularly to pregnant women attending the ANC and to the children attending the clinic.
- Ensure that the empty sachets of PPN correspond to the quantities served, and are regularly sent to Talata Mafara for incineration.
- Ensure that positive malaria RDT cassettes are sent to Talata Mafara for verification before being destroyed.
Stock management:
- The supervisor ensures that the consumption report for drugs and PPNs corresponds to the number of patients seen per day.
- Ensure that the consumption is recorded and shared with the pharmacy supervisor on weekly basis.
- The supervisor ensures that members of the NEP Clinic development committee are actively involved in receiving supplies (drugs and PPNs).
- The supervisor ensures that the order he or she prepares for logistics items corresponds to NEP Clinic's needs.
Staff Management & Development:
- Manage staff according to MSF principles and project objectives, promote medical ethics, comply with the code of conduct and consider the person at the center of care.
- Collect and validate the rosters for incentive staff, submit them to the NAM for verification.
- Identify staff needs for ongoing training to ensure strict adherence to MSF protocols, guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP) when caring for patients.
- Reports to the line manager (NAM-OR) any work-related problem/ incident identified at the clinic.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Share daily the Sitrep of consultations (OPD, ATFC, SRH, SV, Abduction, etc.) and consumptions with NAM.
- Compile together with the MoH NTS the departmental reports and analyze them before drafting the monthly medical report to be submitted to the NAM in real time.
Others:
- Carry out other relevant/delegated duties as may be required or assigned by his/her line manager.
Requirements (Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge)

- Education: University Degree with Specialty in Nursing or Anesthetist is essential.
Experience:
- Essential 2 years of previous experience.
- Work experience within MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries is desirable.
- Languages: English and local Language essential.
- Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
