We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nutrition Educator Officer

Locations: Maiduguri, Jere, Bama, and Ngala (Roving), Borno

Position: Two Persons

Project Duration: 6 months

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Mobilization and Education: Facilitating health and nutrition education sessions for community members and caregivers on topics such as Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices (including exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding), hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Screening and Case Management Support: Assisting with community-level nutrition screenings (e.g., MUAC measurements for children under five and pregnant/lactating women) and referring malnourished cases to appropriate treatment centers (Outpatient Therapeutic Programs - OTP, Stabilization Centers - SC).
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Accurately recording beneficiary data, compiling routine program data, and preparing regular progress reports for management and donors.
  • Capacity Building: Training and mentoring community health volunteers (CHVs), local health workers, and mother-to-mother support groups to ensure sustainable nutrition practices and program implementation.
  • Partnership and Coordination: Working closely with local government health authorities, community leaders, and other partner organizations to ensure harmonized and effective nutrition programming.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Support: Assisting in monitoring stock levels of nutrition commodities (like RUTF and RUSF) and ensuring proper storage and handling.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or HND in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, Community Health, or a related health science field.
  • Experience: Prior experience (often 2 - 4 years, depending on the role's seniority) in community-based nutrition programming, particularly within a humanitarian or development NGO context, is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and community members.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local languages spoken in the duty station (e.g., Hausa) is often a strong asset.
  • Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge of national and international nutrition guidelines and protocols, such as Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, is necessary.
