ASI UKPO DIAGNOSTICS & MEDICALS LIMITED, operator of ASI Ukpo Hospitals, is about to commence operation of the ASI Ukpo Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Calabar. This facility is poised to be the premier comprehensive cancer treatment centre in the South-South and South-East of Nigeria. We seek suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacancies:                             

JOB TITLE:                               ONCOLOGY NURSE

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT:        Full-time

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Double Qualification (RN / RM). 
  • Valid and current practicing license issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
  • Post Basic Oncology Nursing Training, Bachelor of Nursing Science, Basic Life Support (In the last two years), Advanced Cardiac Life Support Skills (in the last two years) would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years Post-RN, with at least 2 years spent working as an Oncology Nurse.
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Assertive, innovative, willing to learn and pass on skills & training.
  • Patient, nurturing, and emotionally stable
  • Flexibility to meet requirements of the work place.
  • Good computer and IT skills.

Ability to:

  • Work under pressure, within a multidisciplinary team and/or alone and organise caseload.
  • Effectively handle patient assessment, patient and family education, coordination of care, direct patient care, symptom management, supportive care, death and suffering.
  • Create and implement individualized cancer care plans for patients under the Hospital’s supervision and care; Recognize and treat/manage cancer-related issues.
  • Assist the patient in acquiring the knowledge and skills to regain and maintain health; motivate the patient and family into having the right attitude towards treatment.
  • Participate in therapy sessions; provide counseling and collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to share expertise and knowledge.
  • Teach patients and their families regarding treatment expectations; ensure both the patient and family are comfortable with the treatment.
  • Watch and record the patient’s progress on a constant basis and chart the patient’s response to treatment and medication.
  • Accept responsibility for personal professional development and be aware of current trends and strategies in nursing, particularly those that are relevant to providing the highest standard of support and care to oncology patients.
