The Zonal Director, National Environmental Standards And Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mr. Larry Odeh Ineke, has said the constant burning of land surface during the destruction of seized illegal drugs and substance by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control’s (NAFDAC) should be of concern to NESREA.

He stated this yesterday when he received the new Director – General of NESREA, Prof. Aliyu Jauro, when he visited the North Central Zonal Office in Bukuru, Plateau State, for the first time since he assumed office as the chief executive of the agency

He urged NESREA’s management to curtail the activities of open burning. Ineke stated that other challenges faced by the agency in the zone include under–funding though he said he was not unmindful of the present economic downturn necessitated by the COVID–19 pandemic.

NESREA’s Director–General, Jauro promised to address the issues raised including those peculiar to the Jos zone.  On open burning, he said it is a serious issue, noting that there was a regulation, which forbids the open burning of sophisticated substance.
